Introduction
Over the decades, vast amounts of Sabah’s forests have been gradually degraded by extensive logging. At Jawala, we’ve been given the mandate by the Sabah State Government to restore these degraded lands into Industrial Tree Plantations. These plantations allow for optimum management of forest resources while meeting the ever growing demand for timber.
Jawala strives to create sustainable ecosystems that enable long-term environmental resilience. Our goal is to provide viable commercial and environmental solutions while we promote biodiversity, protect natural forests and wildlife, and support local communities with sustainable livelihoods.

Our Purpose
Reforesting Sabah for the Future
Jawala is on a dedicated mission to support sustainable forestry in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. Licensed to manage a Commercial Forest Reserve (Class II) of approximately 11,043 hectares in Sapulut Forest Reserve, we specialise in the cultivation of industrial tree plantations through the implementation of sustainable forest management practices
Our purpose, “Reforesting Sabah for the Future”, underscores our commitment to safeguarding and renewing Sabah’s forest resources.
Helping Nature Thrive
As we face increasing global demand for timber and the pressing need to preserve our natural forests, the development of Industrial Tree Plantations (ITP) presents a promising, sustainable solution. With a significantly shorter gestation period of 8 12 years, compared to the 30-50 years for natural tropical timber, ITP enables a faster, renewable cycle that supports both industry and conservation efforts.
Jawala combines innovative technology and deep environmental expertise to plant and nurture trees in areas most impacted by
degradation. To date, we’ve planted close to 1.6 million trees in our ITPs, with the first batch of trial harvest successfully achieved.

Empowering Life
Jawala is committed to contributing positively to the environment and to the communities that depend on our forest resources.
Our pro-active conservation initiatives include conducting a High Conservation Value (HCV) assessment of our concession area. Through this assessment, we have designated an additional 1,800 hectares (31% of our total concession) as HCV area. This set-aside includes critical habitats for diverse flora and fauna, areas crucial to community needs, and regions supporting protected species, thus ensuring that both biodiversity and local communities are respected
Nuturing Growth
A strong and sustainable workforce is the cornerstone of any successful business. At Jawala, we implement initiatives that support, empower, and protect our valued team members. We strive to equip our people with essential skills and knowledge that not only drive our business towards a successful future but also enhance personal and professional growth
Upgrading Standards
For the seventh year running, Jawala has proudly achieved zero incidence of non-compliance. We’ve remained fully compliant with all applicable laws and regulations, ensuring that no fines or penalties were incurred from any authorities or government agencies.
